Mayfair’s rich history
The name ‘Mayfair’ comes from an annual fair that took place within the area, which was situated around the open fields and farmland. Originally North Row was stable yards with passages to different livestock workshops. However, the annual festival stopped in 1709, due to the disruption to the royals living in the area. The area was previously filled with residential property, however after the second world war Mayfair became concentrated with commercial properties. However, the area is still filled with some of the highest profile and wealthy individuals in London, the most famous being the Royal Family.
