About Regent’s Park

Regent’s Park was originally part of the Forest of Middlesex and was used as a hunting ground by Henry VIII. It’s now a 410 acre area of open parkland offering a range of amenities. Regent’s University and London Zoo are both situated on the periphery.

Regent’s Park gets its name from the Prince Regent, who set out to change the area into a pleasure garden in the 1810s. It is now Grade 1 listed on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens.

The Social Side of Regent’s Park

Regent’s Park itself offers a beautiful area of green space that includes public gardens, an Open Air Theatre (seating 1,256), formal Italian Gardens and informal English Gardens. It has a lake with a heronry, a boating area, sports pitches, and playgrounds. The Regent’s Canal runs through the northern end of the park. You can walk along it or take a boat to Camden Town and enjoy the greenery and stunning Georgian architecture.

It has excellent transport links with five underground stations located along it’s edges – Regent’s Park, Baker Street, Great Portland Street, Warren Street and Marylebone. Camden Road, Marylebone, Euston, King’s Cross, Paddington and St Pancras railway stations are also nearby.

On the western edge of Regent’s Park you’ll find the Regent’s Park Mosque, with its distinctive gold dome. It contains one of the oldest Islamic libraries in the world.

While the park itself is an oasis of calm, it is a short hop from some of London’s busiest neighbourhoods. Marylebone, is a fashionable shopping district and is also home to some of the capital’s best pubs, cafes and restaurants.

Baker Street also offers great shops and stunning architecture. It’s also where you’ll find the famous Madame Tussaud’s and the London Planetarium. Nearby King’s Cross has recently undergone a huge transformation and offers al fresco dining, bars, nightclubs, restaurants, etc. It’s home to the British Library too.
