About Monument

Monument was named after The Monument to the Great Fire of London, a 202 foot tall column which is situated at the junction of Monument and Fish Street, at the Northern end of London Bridge. You can climb up The Monument which has a viewing platform offering a fantastic panorama of the city. It’s the oldest ticketed attraction in London.

Situated in the City, the area is served by Monument, Bank and London Bridge stations and you can also hop onto the Thames Clipper at Tower or London City pier which are both a 10-minute walk away.

The Social Side of Monument

Situated in the City, the area used to be a Roman trading outpost and is one of the richest square miles in the world. There is so much to see and do. It’s here that you can see some of the capital’s most famous tall buildings, such as the Gherkin which looks resplendent among Roman ruins and historic architecture.

St. Paul’s Cathedral is nearby, as is the Bank of England and the famous Fishmonger’s Hall, a grade II listed building which serves as the HQ for the Worshipful Company of Fishmonger’s. It houses a number of precious artifacts, including a collection of 17th and 18th Century silver, plus famous portraits and river scenes. You can view the inside of the building by appointment.

As you would expect in an area like this, there are plenty of fine dining restaurants and some of the most high end hotels in London.

During the working week, this part of town is busy with office workers, while it’s a popular spot for tourists at the weekend.

There is green space to be enjoyed at St Dunstan in the East, a ruined church and at Sky Garden where you can look out across London.
