    Borough

The Borough area of London is located in Southwark and close to the Thames with Butler’s Walk and South Bank within easy walking distance. During the Second World War, the underground tunnels between Borough and the South side of the Thames were used as air raid shelters and there’s a plaque at the tube station to commemorate this.

    The Social Side of Borough

The most famous attraction in the area is Borough Market, a foodie paradise with flavours from all over the world. It’s where you’ll find the famous Bread Ahead doughnuts, vintage balsamic vinegars, incredible cheeses, vegetables and street food to suit all tastes. There’s a seating area within the market itself, but many visitors choose to enjoy their dishes looking out onto the Thames, opposite Southwark Cathedral.

The area is filled with lively coffee shops of which Monmouth is the most famous and there are plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from, especially along the banks of the Thames.

A two minute walk from Borough Market is The Golden Hind, a living history museum which allows you to experience what it might have been like to sail on an Elizabethan gallery.

Shakespeare’s Rose Theatre, the Tate Modern, The Clink prison museum and The London Bridge Experience are all within easy walking distance, hence this is a popular area with tourists.
