It’s nicely appointed with a luxurious modern twist on traditional bar décor – lots of dark browns, plush upholstery and lighting that makes the glasses and bottles twinkle like jewels. The place serves everything from signature cocktails to bar snacks and sharing platters.

If it’s a traditional boozer you’re after, look no further than this cosy pub tucked away in a corner just off Fenchurch Street in a renovated Grade II listed building. It serves a great selection of quality cask ales that change on a regular basis, speciality beers and wines. It’s dog friendly too. It’s a refreshing change to the usual drinking holes that are packed with city workers come five o’clock.
South Place Hotel, 3 South Place, EC2M 2AF

Wagtail Rooftop Bar and Restaurant, 68 King William Street, EC4N 7HR
With views of iconic London landmarks such as St Pauls, The Shard and the Gherkin, the private terraces on top of this building are the perfect place to watch the sunset. If the weather’s inclement the dining area and indoor bar are also impressive, although the rooftop terrace bar is covered and there are heaters to ward off the cold. The bars stay open until 1.30 am from Wednesday through to Saturday.
