The Sky Garden, 20 Fenchurch Street, EC3M 8AF

As long as you’re not too distracted by the stunning views across the City, the landscaped gardens, and observation decks in what is London’s highest public garden, then The Sky Garden is perfect for a business lunch. The shared menu offers dishes such as wild mushroom and truffle arancini, glazed chicken wings in whiskey BBQ and cured salmon, caper berries, focaccia, and tarragon emulsion.  Booking is essential.

 

Langbourns, 77 Gracechurch Street, EC3V 0AS

Offering contemporary British food, this restaurant is popular with city workers. You can either enjoy champagne and oysters at the oyster bar or settle at one of the tables, many of which have leather banquette seating, for traditional a la carte dishes such as braised beef cheek with seaweed suet pudding or monkfish and prawn cocktail. Alternatively, you can push the boat out and go for the £72 côte de boeuf.

 

Luc’s Brasserie, 17 – 22 Leadenhall Market, EC3V 1LY

A bustling brasserie in the heart of Leadenhall offering a range of French classics such as duck confit and Toulouse sausage cassoulet. It’s almost always busy at lunchtime and while it’s great if you’re looking for a convivial atmosphere, it’s not the right choice if peace and quiet is on your menu.

 

Savage Garden, Tower Hill, EC3N 4AF

Situated on top of Hilton Doubletree, this rooftop bar offers breathtaking views across London and some delicious bar snacks and sharing plates. There’s nothing pedestrian about it and you’ll find dishes such as charred octopus with fennel, orange chermoula and kasha, and sesame prawn toast with bacon jam on the menu. The menu includes vegetarian options. Outside seating is available.

 

Searcy’s Helix restaurant at the Gherkin, 30 St Mary Axe, EC3A 8EP

Situated on level nine of this iconic building, Searcy’s is one of the most visually stunning lunch places near Fenchurch Street. The menu is quintessentially British, and the restaurant has close links with UK farmers and producers. The seafood is responsibly sourced, and the smoked salmon all comes from a family holding. The set menu offers mains such as Lake District lamb and pan-seared chalk stream trout with traditional desserts to follow, including Bakewell tart and Chai latte panna cotta with Yorkshire rhubarb.

 

Angler, 3 South Place, EC2M 2AF

This Michelin-starred restaurant serves mainly fish from Cornwall and Scotland and despite being situated on the top floor of the South Place Hotel, it feels very much like a self-contained restaurant space. It’s comfortable, and ornate and there’s also a lovely roof terrace. The menu changes seasonally and executive chef Gary Foulkes produces food that isn’t easily forgotten. Food reviewer Grace Dent said of Angler: “This is thoughtful, accomplished cooking. It’s businessy but it has a heart, the staff are attentive and convivial, and the dessert menu is bloody superb.”
