Returning To A Serviced Office When It Is Safe To Do So

Published On 12th May 2021 by Kerri McMahon

Back in March 2020, a huge percentage of businesses here in the UK were asked to start working from home where they possibly can and now, several months later, the government’s advice remains that everyone who can work from home should do so. However, if things continue as they are, it is highly likely that in just a few months time, it will be safe for employees to return to the workplace, which is very welcome news for some.

However, as you may expect, others aren’t as keen to disrupt their daily routines again by coming back into the workplace. So, in an attempt to please all employees and to make the transition back into the office as hassle-free as possible, lots of businesses are putting flexible work arrangements in place. If you’re currently looking into different ways that you can make your employees return to the office slightly easier, be sure to consider the following;

Offer employees flexible start and finish times

Since they have been working from home, employees have got used to their workday starting later and finishing earlier, simply because they’re not having to commute. For many, returning to the office whenever it is safe to do so will make a big difference to both their morning and evening routines, and the longer days will take some getting used to again.

When it is possible in their line of work, some employers are going to offer more flexibility when it comes to start and finish times as employees get used to being out of the house for extended periods of time again. Instead of sticking to a strict schedule, putting a new ‘bandwidth’ period in place should help to make returning to the office more convenient as employees have to start commuting to and from work again.

Allow employees to split their time between the office and home

Some employees have found that working from home hasn’t hindered their ability to do their job or affected their productivity, and it is likely that they will question why they even need to return to the office. Of course, employers know that there are numerous business benefits to having everyone in the workplace, but some are considering a ‘hybrid’ working model.

Many of those who have found that working remotely has been successful for their business are willing to let employees split their time so they don’t have to work from the office five days a week. Not only does this allow employees the flexibility to work from home for a few days if they’d prefer to, but it also enables them to have more control over their work-life balance. This ‘best of both worlds’ approach is predicted to be one that may adopt.

Introduce some new employee perks

There is no denying that there are a multitude of benefits to working from home for employees and it is no surprise that some won’t be happy to give these up when it is safe for them to return to the office again. So, employers are looking for new ways that they can make working in the office more appealing to their employees.

When they’re able to, lots of businesses are going to introduce new employee perks and business benefits to help encourage employees back into the office and even make them excited about their return. There are so many different ways you can reward employees for their hard work and keep them motivated during the long days in the office, it is all about choosing the right perks for your employees as there isn’t a ‘one-size-fits-all’ solution in this regard.
